In Old Testament times, God's people worshipped him by sacrificing their best sheep and goats. One day God told Abraham to sacrifice his only son instead of an animal. Abraham loved his son Issac with all his heart, but he respected God even more.

    Abraham tied Isaac up and laid him on the wood. Abraham picked up his knife, but an angel stopped him. "Don't hurt Isaac!" the angel said. "God sees you truly respect him. Look! There is your sacrifice." In the bushes was a sheep. Because of Abraham's great faith, God provided another sacrifice so Isaac could live.
